My Beautiful Bestie

Lesley. My darling, beautiful precious, funny Bestie. From the moment we were placed together in Mr Hampson's math's class, as giggly 14-year-olds, to the trips to Carnforth's charity shops, as the proud mums and grandmothers we became, until it was too much for you, you have been a huge, and constant part of my life. You were there for the good times, and bad, the laughter and the tears, and everything in-between. Your kindness, generosity and selflessness will never be forgotten - you always put your own needs and wants, after those of others. So many memories Bestie. The floppy lilac hats we bought in Cornwall, aged 15, the disappearing biscuits which you baked in Domestic Science, which were far too close to the top of the oven - so much so, that when you went to check them, the tray came out alone. The burnt biscuits had stuck to the top, and we spent a hilarious lunch hour, scraping them off the roof of the oven, much to the annoyance of Mrs Beale! Singing and dancing in your bedroom to George Mcrae. And school sending us and others to entertain the residents at Greenbank with us dancing to Neil Diamond's Cracklin' Rosie' (we were dreadful..) The door handle that came off in your hand when we were leaving the chippy on Albert Road in Farnworth, and you meekly walked to the counter and passed it to them! Your laugh was so infectious, others couldn't help but join in! Our little ones growing up together, playing in sand dunes, on parks and beaches..and us visiting the gift shops! The yummy chicken dinners you always made. Later - the arrival of precious grandchildren. I know how much you loved them all. You dealt with your awful illness, the way you dealt with everything. With humour, and always underplaying your symptoms. "Not too bad" meant you were really struggling, but you didn't want to 'burden' people. My visits in the last few years always involved my bringing chocolate eclairs (oh how you loved your cake)! and you always provided me with a can of Cocoa Cola for the journey back. Lesley I will miss you beyond words, and will love you forever. You were a ray of sunshine, who lit up any room you walked in to. Your passing has left a hole in my heart, that can never be repaired, nor filled. So, beautiful lady, fly high and rest well. Be free of all that you have endured, in the last few years, and may God give you the eternal peace that you truly deserve. Until we meet again Bestie, goodnight - God bless, all my love, and thank you for being my friend. Angela xxx
